At Sawnee, you can customize your experience. There are over 11 miles of trails available for every skill level and goal to enjoy. Check out the popular Indian Seats Trail for a moderate hike rich in Native American history. There’s even a quick 15-minute hike to the peak, so the little ones can see the view without running out of steam.

The Georgia Gold Rush was an exciting part of history that you can see up close at Sawnee! Keep an eye out on the trails for the barred tunnels that used to be gold mines in the 1800s. Prospectors once found gold in the streams that ran through Sawnee Mountain. While you cannot go inside the mines for safety reasons, it’s still exhilaratingly fun to peer inside and imagine the past.

Experienced hikers will tell you that the view atop Sawnee Mountain is easily one of the most beautiful in Georgia. Get ready for stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains that’ll leave you speechless. You can also spot Amicalola Falls, Brasstown Bald, and Yonah Mountain. If you’re lucky enough to catch the sunset, the sight is spectacular!

Whether you decide to bring a blanket and eat on the peak itself or utilize Sawnee’s picnic tables at the trailheads, it’ll make the occasion even more memorable.

Just a short walk from the visitor’s center, you’ll find what’s known as The Fairy Trail. This was a project of Girl Scout Troup 13730 and is great for small children. You’ll find miniature houses, caves and sparkle-covered rocks. There are even signs encouraging you to build your own fairy houses there!

At some point during your escapade, make sure you check out the 5,600-square-foot visitor center. This impressive center features interactive exhibits, a relaxing area, outdoor games, a gift shop and more. You can pick out a special trinket to commemorate your hike!

Another excellent reason to visit Sawnee is that the adventure is free! It’s a nice outing with the family, friends, or on a date that won’t cost you a thing. You can also rest assured you won’t have to squat down in the woods here. Visitors often call out the restrooms’ cleanliness compared to other hiking spots.
