Website, trip-planning tools, mobile applications, and location-enabled services

1. Scope and acceptance

This Privacy Policy explains how the Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce, doing business as Discover FoCo (collectively, “Discover FoCo,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you use discoverfoco.com and its pages (the “Website”), Discover FoCo-branded mobile applications (the “Apps”), and related trip-planning, interactive map, kiosk, notification, and visitor-information services (collectively, the “Services”).

Some Services may be provided or operated for Discover FoCo by Visit Widget LLC or other technology providers. As a result, their systems may process information on our behalf or under their own privacy terms, depending on the feature. This Policy applies to Discover FoCo’s handling of information; a provider’s policy also may apply when you use that provider’s technology.

By using the Services, you acknowledge this Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the affected Service or grant optional device permissions. The Visit Widget privacy policy is available at visitwidget.com/privacy-policy.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us

Information you provide. We may collect your name, email address, mailing address, telephone number, account or sign-in details, submitted inquiries, visitor-guide requests, newsletter preferences, survey responses, contest or promotion entries, and other information you choose to provide. If account or social sign-in is offered, the sign-in provider may share information according to the permissions you select.

Trip plans and preferences. We may collect interests you select and places, events, attractions, tours, routes, or other items you save, like, search for, or add to an itinerary or trip plan. As a result, we may assign account, user, session, or plan identifiers so a plan can be saved or used across devices.

Information we collect automatically

Location information. If you enable location services, an App or location-enabled feature may collect approximate or precise location information from your device, including GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, beacon, or similar signals. Depending on your device settings and the feature you choose, location may be collected while you use the App and, only if you grant the applicable permission, periodically while the App is not open. We may use location to show nearby attractions, provide navigation or relevant destination information, send location-based messages or notifications, measure visits or engagement, improve the Services, and create aggregated tourism insights.

In addition, you can use many features without sharing precise location. Device permission prompts and settings control whether location is available. Turning off location may limit maps, nearby recommendations, navigation, geofencing, or other location-based features.

Device, app, and technical information. We and our providers may automatically collect IP address, browser and device type, operating system, app version, language, referring and exit pages, dates and times, pages or screens viewed, links selected, crash and diagnostic data, notification interaction, network or signal information, and other usage data. The Services also may use device or installation identifiers, advertising identifiers where permitted, push-notification tokens, analytics identifiers, and vendor-generated IDs (for example, IDs associated with Visit Widget, Firebase, OneSignal, or a location-services provider). As with other technical details on this page, the specific identifiers and providers may change as our technology changes.

Cookies and similar technologies. The Website and embedded features may use cookies, pixels, tags, local storage, software development kits, and similar technologies for essential functions, preferences, analytics, performance, security, and, where used, marketing. For instance, Discover FoCo currently uses or may use tools such as Google Tag Manager and related analytics services. You may adjust browser or device controls, but blocking some technologies may affect functionality.

Information from other sources

Information from third parties. We may receive information from vendors that operate the Services, analytics and advertising providers, social sign-in providers, tourism partners, public sources, and other organizations when permitted by law.

3. How we use information

We may use information to:

  • Provide, operate, maintain, personalize, and secure the Services;
  • Create and manage accounts, saved trips, itineraries, preferences, and cross-device access;
  • Display nearby attractions, maps, routes, events, and destination recommendations;
  • Deliver push, email, or location-based messages when you have enabled or requested them;
  • Respond to inquiries, fulfill visitor-guide requests, provide support, and communicate about the Services;
  • Analyze traffic, feature use, visitor interests, campaign performance, and aggregated visitation patterns;
  • Detect fraud, misuse, security incidents, technical problems, and violations of applicable terms;
  • Comply with law, protect rights and safety, and establish or defend legal claims; and
  • Carry out another purpose disclosed when information is collected or with your consent.

4. How we disclose information

We may disclose information in the following circumstances:

Service providers. This may go to vendors that host, maintain, analyze, secure, support, or provide the Website, Apps, trip planner, maps, notifications, location services, email, surveys, and other Services. For example, this may include Visit Widget and its subprocessors.

Tourism and business partners. To a hotel, attraction, event organizer, restaurant, transportation provider, or other partner when you ask us to connect you, make a request, or use a feature that requires the disclosure.

Legal and safety purposes. We may also disclose information to government authorities, courts, attorneys, or others when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect legal rights, safety, security, or the integrity of the Services.

Organizational changes. In connection with a merger, reorganization, financing, transfer, dissolution, or similar organizational transaction involving all or part of the relevant operations or assets.

With direction or consent. When you direct us to disclose information or otherwise consent.

We may disclose information that has been aggregated or de-identified so it cannot reasonably be linked to you. However, Discover FoCo does not sell personal information for money. Some privacy laws may define certain analytics or advertising disclosures as a “sale,” “sharing,” or targeted advertising even when no money is exchanged. Where applicable, you may request to opt out as described below.

5. Location data and mobile-app choices

Location permission is optional. A device permission request will identify the type of access requested. Depending on the operating system, you may be able to select Never, Ask Next Time, While Using the App, Always, approximate location, or precise location. Background or periodic location collection occurs only when the relevant feature is active and the permission allowed by your device has been granted.

You may change location permissions at any time in your iOS or Android settings. Similarly, you may disable push notifications in device settings, reset or limit an advertising identifier, or uninstall the App. In some cases, changes may not delete information already collected; deletion requests are addressed in Section 8.

6. Third-party services and links

The Services may contain maps, media, social features, booking links, advertisements, or links to websites and apps operated by others. Discover FoCo does not control those third parties or their privacy and security practices. Review the privacy notice of any third-party service you use. A link or listing does not mean Discover FoCo endorses the third party’s privacy practices.

7. Data retention and security

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including to provide the Services, maintain records, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. In general, retention periods vary based on the type of information, the feature used, legal requirements, and operational needs. However, aggregated or de-identified information may be retained longer.

We and our providers use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information. No website, app, transmission, or storage system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your choices and privacy requests

You may unsubscribe from promotional email by using the unsubscribe link in the message. Similarly, you can manage cookies through browser settings and location or notification permissions through device settings. Where our technology recognizes a legally required browser-based opt-out preference signal, such as Global Privacy Control, we will process it as required by applicable law.

Depending on where you live and subject to legal exceptions, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, or a copy of personal information; to withdraw consent; or to opt out of certain sale, sharing, or targeted advertising. To submit a request, email fccoc@focochamber.org or use the contact information in Section 12. We may need to verify your identity and authority before completing a request. You may use an authorized agent where permitted by law.

If information is controlled directly by an App provider or another third party, we may refer your request to that provider or explain how to submit it there. Some information may remain in backups, device caches, or records retained for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.

9. Children’s privacy

The Services are intended for a general audience and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information online from a child under 13 without legally required consent. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and take appropriate action.

10. Processing and transfers

Discover FoCo and its providers are based in or may process information in the United States and other locations where they operate. As a result, privacy protections in those locations may differ from those in your jurisdiction. Where required, we use appropriate measures for cross-border transfers.

11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy as the Services, technology, vendors, or legal requirements change. In that case, we will post the updated Policy on the Website and revise the effective date. If required by law, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent. Your continued use after an update is subject to the revised Policy.
