In fact, Forsyth County's trail network runs from flat, stroller-friendly boardwalk to a genuine climb at Sawnee Mountain Preserve. Overall, restrooms and parking sit at the Halcyon and Fowler Park greenway trailheads and at the Sawnee Mountain Preserve visitor center; amenities vary elsewhere.

963 acres of ridge and forest, with a visitor center at the base and the Indian Seats overlook near the summit. Also, dogs are not permitted on the trails.

Indian Seats Trail

In total, about 500 feet of climbing leads to the overlook. Short on time? For example, the out-and-back from the visitor center tops out in roughly a mile and a half.

Eagle’s Beak Park

Here, a flat loop around the field pairs with a little over a mile of dirt nature trail and a kayak launch on the Etowah River.

Charleston Park

5.5 MILES · INTERMEDIATE · SINGLETRACK

Meanwhile, this rooty, rolling loop system runs along the Lake Lanier shoreline, shared by hikers and mountain bikers. Additionally, boat ramps, restrooms and picnic grills sit at the trailhead.

Caney Creek Preserve

1.2 MILES · EASY · LOOP

Also, this short wooded loop suits a quick walk, with one of the county’s four dog parks at the entrance.
